Reconnecting Democracy
REDIRECT is an innovative project addressing the crisis of
democratic representation in Europe, developing strategies and
tools to rebuild a stronger connection between citizens and
institutions.
What we do
REDIRECT tackles the crisis of democratic representation by combining
research, public engagement, and scholarly publications. Here’s how we
make an impact:
Research
We explore the roots of representative disconnect through interdisciplinary research on participation, responsiveness, and legitimacy.
Publications
We share our findings through academic papers, policy briefs, and thought pieces that contribute to the public debate on democracy.
Dissemination
We engage with civil society, media, and institutions through workshops, podcasts, and public events across Europe.
Understanding REDIRECT
REDIRECT is a Horizon Europe research project exploring the
phenomenon of ‘representative disconnect’—the growing gap between
citizens and their political representatives. Our goal is to better
understand how this disconnect takes shape and how democratic
systems can adapt to restore trust and legitimacy.
Key Concepts
We ground our research in core political theory concepts that help
explain the nature of democratic disconnection. These include:
- Representative Claims
- Democratic Disconnect
- Responsiveness & Accountability
