The REDIRECT project continues its critical reflection on the state of democracy with a new workshop titled “Political Parties and the Representative Disconnect,” taking place at the University of Oslo on September 18–19, 2025.

This event will delve into the role of political parties in the growing disconnect between institutions and citizens. Through presentations and collaborative discussions, participants will analyze whether parties are drivers, symptoms, or possible solutions to this democratic malaise.

• Whether political parties are central to or constitutive of the representative disconnect

• Their role in driving the intermediation disconnect

• How parties act as recipients vs. originators of political change

• Why some types of parties may be more vulnerable to this disconnect
