THE CONSORTIUM 

The consortium members represent research centres from a diversity of European countries: Belgium (VUB – Free University of brussels), Italy (UNISI – University of Siena, UNILE – University of Salento), Hungary (CSS), Norway (UIO – University of Oslo), Poland (JUK – Jagiellonian University), and the United Kingdom (UNEXE – University of Exeter). All partners have an extensive record in investigating political representation in European democracies. REDIRECT brings together scholars from political theory and empirical political science, sociology, social psychology, constitutional and comparative law and inherently interdisciplinary fields like gender & politics and feminist theory.

University of Siena – Università degli studi di Siena (UNISI)

The UNISI team holds a remarkable expertise in the field of EU studies. Researchers at the Siena Centre for Study of Political Change have led large-scale comparative projects such as INTUNE (7th Framework Programme), and Euengage (Horizon 2020). The Laboratory for Political and Social Analysis will assist the coordinator in organising MP and mass surveys as well as lab experiments. UNISI demonstrates an excellent record in fielding MP surveys and contributes to REDIRECT through its expertise in various quantitative methods.

 

HUN-REN Centre for Social Sciences – HUN-REN Társadalomtudományi Kutatóközpont (HUN-REN TK)

HUN-REN TK is the flagship research institute of social sciences in Hungary. It conducts disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in the areas of sociology, political science, computational social science, network science, minority studies, and legal studies using the latest scientific methods and high-quality research data. HUN-REN TK is dedicated to building collaborative, trans-disciplinary research networks both within Hungary and internationally. The vision of HUN-REN TK is to be the leading research institution for social sciences in the region. HUN-REN TK should be an indispensable source for those who seek to deepen their knowledge about social changes, legal developments, and political trends in Hungary and the region. Furthermore, it wants to foster an open conversation with other scientists and social actors, founded in research and analysis. At the Centre, over 200 Hungarian and international researchers engage in exploratory and innovative national and international research projects in the Social Sciences. Founded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, the Centre’s charter established its freedom to research without political influence. Comprising four institutes — Political Science, Minority Studies, Legal Studies, Sociology and other research units — the Centre has greatly contributed to understanding and addressing far-reaching societal issues that pertain to Hungarian and European societies. The Centre currently operates over 70 local and international research projects and publishes six journals —two of them ranked by SCOPUS. A state-of-the-art research performance evaluating system has been used since 2013 with a focus on internal publications.

 

University of Oslo – Universitetet i Oslo (UIO)

The ARENA Centre for European Studies at UIO coordinates the EU3D (EU Differentiation, Dominance and Democracy, Horizon 2020). ARENA holds great expertise in the fields of democracy studies, political theory, Europeanisation, political communication, legislator behaviour, and the interaction between public opinion and politics.

 

University of Salento – Università del Salento (UNILE)

Researchers from UNILE have contributed to research programs that are closely connected with the proposed project: the DEMOPE project (the Italian Ministry of University and Research) whose main aim is to understand how democracies respond to social and economic crises, and the RECRIRE project (Horizon 2020) that analysed social identity changes triggered by various crises in European societies to frame better policies at local, national and European level.

 

Jagiellonian University – Uniwersytet Jagielloński (JUK)

JUK is the oldest and the leading university in Poland founded in 1364. The Institute of European Studies (IES) makes part of the Faculty of International and Political Studies at JUK. IES is known for its interdisciplinary approach, combining the perspectives of anthropology, economy, cultural studies, political science and international relations, history, law and sociology on Europe. IES participates in research networks and international consortia, most notably within Horizon Europe. Educationally, IES hosts BA and MA programmes in European Studies in Polish and a variety of BA, study abroad and international MA in English.

 

Vrije Universiteit Brussel – Free University of Brussels (VUB)

The Vrije Universiteit Brussel is a humanist, dynamic and urban-engaged university situated in the capital of Europe. It provides high-quality education to more than 15,800 students (of which 21,5% are international students, covering around 128 nationalities). It houses over 150 research teams across nine faculties. The Politics Department is part of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and participates in various research networks and (inter)national consortia, most notably within Horizon Europe, ERC, EOS-FWO. Its research is clustered in two large research groups on international politics and democratic futures.

 

University of Exeter (UNEXE)

The University of Exeter combines world-class research with excellence in education. Its campuses are located in the South-West of England, in Exeter and Cornwall. The University is a member of the Russell Group, and in the top 150 universities globally (THES rankings).The Exeter REDIRECT research group is based within the interdisciplinary Department of Social and Political Sciences, Philosophy and Anthropology, and comprises members of the Centre for Political Thought (CPT) and of the Public Policy and Governance Group (PPGG). The Centre encompasses one of the largest clusters of political theorists in the UK. Its distinctive character is the diversity of areas and approaches covered by its research. The Centre promotes collaborative research and is part of an increasing number of international networks. Members of the PPGG have expertise across a wide range of public policy theories, issues and methodologies, and publish in high impact generalist and specialist journals. Members of the Exeter team have played leading roles in many international and national research projects on political, socio-legal, and policy-making issues. The Department hosts BA and MA programmes across all of its disciplines, and has a large and thriving cohort of postgraduate research students.
