On 21 February 2024, Dario Castiglione (University of Exeter) gave an online presentation on the scope and aims of the REDIRECT project as part of a research seminar hosted by the Exeter Centre for European Studies.

The session provided an overview of the project’s core objectives and theoretical foundations, with a particular focus on Work Package 1, which maps and conceptualises contemporary forms of representative disconnect across European democracies. Castiglione discussed how the project seeks to integrate empirical data and normative theory to better understand the dynamics of political trust, responsiveness, and democratic legitimacy.

The seminar offered an opportunity to engage with scholars and students interested in EU politics, political representation, and democratic reform. It also served as an internal milestone for REDIRECT’s dissemination activities in the UK academic landscape, further embedding the project in ongoing debates about democracy in flux.
