REDIRECT at the Workshop on Citizens’ Views on Representation (MULTIREP Project)

Kevin Meyvaert presented REDIRECT research at an European Consortium for Political Research workshop organised within the MULTIREP Project in Vienna, Austria. The workshop brought together scholars examining contemporary challenges to democratic representation and citizen engagement across European democracies.

The presentation focused on the paper “Repairing Urban Youth’s Political Disenchantment”, which investigates how representative institutions and political actors may respond to declining political engagement among younger generations. The research explores the conditions under which political institutions can rebuild trust and responsiveness, and how young citizens’ expectations toward representation are evolving in contemporary democracies.

The workshop provided a valuable forum for comparative discussion and scholarly exchange among researchers working on democratic representation, youth politics and patterns of citizen engagement, contributing to REDIRECT’s broader research agenda on the transformation of representative relationships.
