REDIRECT research was discussed at a workshop titled “Ideas in Transit: Democracy, Economy, and Philosophy between East and West”, hosted by the University of Exeter in Exeter, United Kingdom. The event brought together scholars to explore transcultural perspectives on democracy and political representation.
Chaired by Dario Castiglione, the workshop examined how ideas about democracy travel across intellectual traditions and political contexts. Drawing in particular on the work of Alexis de Tocqueville, discussions explored how East–West perspectives can help illuminate different understandings of democratic institutions, representation and political economy.
The workshop gathered around fifteen participants and provided a forum for theoretical exchange supporting REDIRECT’s broader research on the evolving concepts and practices of democratic representation.
