Italy, Germany and the Democratic Regression: REDIRECT at Villa Vigoni

From 24–26 November 2025, Villa Vigoni hosts the conference “Italia e Germania nel processo di regressione democratica”, a high-level Italian-German dialogue on the state of democratic institutions, socio-economic pressures, and the capacity for joint action in Europe. Our REDIRECT Principal Investigator, Luca Verzichelli (University of Siena), will contribute to the discussion on “Party Fragmentation and Political Polarisation in Italy and Germany” and a roundtable on “Defending Democracy”. The event gathers scholars and stakeholders to compare vulnerabilities in the two systems and to reflect on how Italy and Germany can strengthen democratic resilience together at the heart of Europe.
