Eline Severs at the INCONEX Kick-Off: Sharing Insights from the REDIRECT project

REDIRECT is proud to spotlight the participation of Eline Severs (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), affiliate and team leader within our project, at the INCONEX Kick-Off Workshop held online on 12 December. Severs took part in the keynote conversation “Rethinking Representation Through Absence,” alongside Suzanne Dovi and Petra Guasti, moderated by Lucy Kinski. The event also featured an earlier panel on representative claims and group appeals in the public sphere. Her contribution resonates closely with REDIRECT’s core mission: understanding how representation functions and fails in contemporary democracies. By engaging with questions of silence, absence, and marginalisation, Severs advances the broader REDIRECT effort to diagnose representative disconnect and develop strategies for reconnection and redirection. Her work at INCONEX strengthens the dialogue between empirical research and normative theory, enriching REDIRECT’s comparative framework on democratic legitimacy and citizen-elite relations.
