REDIRECT research will be presented by Eline Severs at the workshop Shades of Democracy: Conceptualizations, Assessments and Outlooks, hosted at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The event brings together scholars working on democratic theory and empirical analyses of contemporary democratic attitudes and institutions.
Her presentation, titled “Repairing Urban Youth’s Political Disengagement: Why Not Just Any Representative Will Do”, examines how younger citizens evaluate political representation and the conditions under which representative relationships can be rebuilt. The research contributes to REDIRECT’s broader effort to understand changing expectations toward political representation and the challenges posed by youth disengagement in contemporary democracies.
The workshop provides an opportunity to discuss these findings with scholars studying citizens’ conceptions of democracy and the evolving dynamics of democratic representation.
