The REDIRECT project is pleased to announce its Final Event, “The Future of Representation: What’s Next?”, taking place on 19 January 2027 at BeCentral in Brussels, Belgium.
Bringing together researchers, policymakers, civil society representatives and other stakeholders, the event will provide an opportunity to reflect on the main findings of the REDIRECT project and explore the challenges and opportunities facing representative democracy in Europe.
Throughout the event, participants will discuss the changing nature of political representation, the factors contributing to the growing disconnect between citizens and their representatives, and possible strategies for strengthening democratic engagement and rebuilding representative relationships.
We are especially pleased to announce Professor Cristina Leston-Bandeira, from the University of Leeds, as the event’s keynote speaker. Her contribution will offer an opportunity to reflect on the transformations of representative democracy and its future prospects.
The REDIRECT Final Event aims to foster meaningful exchanges between academic research and practice, encouraging dialogue on how representative democracy can respond to contemporary challenges.
