REDIRECT concluded its participation at SISP 2026 in Trento with a lively panel dedicated to political representation, democracy and the relationship between citizens and political elites.
Within Panel 3.3, Elisabetta Mannoni, Luca Verzichelli and Marco Improta served as chairs, while Elisabetta Mannoni and Paolo Marzi acted as main discussants. The session brought together a wide range of contributions and generated an engaging discussion among presenters, discussants and participants.
Several papers were particularly closely connected to REDIRECT’s research agenda, including contributions by Elisabetta Mannoni, Sergio Martini and Federico Russo, as well as a paper from REDIRECT’s sister project ActEU, presented by Matilde Ceron. Together, these contributions addressed key questions concerning democratic representation, citizens’ attitudes and the functioning of representative institutions.
The panel also featured a rich set of additional presentations by Alberto La Malfa, Filippo Tronconi, Bence Hamrak, Francesco Baraldi, Marcello Carammia, Zeynep Menteşoğlu Tardivo and Will Atkinson, further broadening the discussion around contemporary challenges to democracy and political representation.
The session provided an important opportunity to connect REDIRECT’s research with related work being developed across the wider political science community and to exchange ideas on how representative democracy is changing in Europe.
Many thanks to all presenters, chairs, discussants and participants for contributing to such a stimulating session and to a great edition of SISP in Trento.
