REDIRECT research was presented at a workshop titled “Back to Society: Studying Social Intermediation as a Component of Democratic Representation”, held at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy. The workshop brought together scholars to discuss how social intermediation shapes representative democracy and how institutions can reconnect citizens with political life.
Chaired by Dario Castiglione and Nadia Urbinati, the event explored the role played by political parties, civil society organisations and intermediary institutions in linking citizens to political processes. Discussions focused on how these actors contribute to sustaining democratic representation and addressing growing concerns about political disengagement and representative disconnect.
The workshop gathered around twenty participants and provided an opportunity for in-depth exchange on the institutional and societal mechanisms that support meaningful democratic intermediation.
